Island Living
House Plan: Island Cottage, 1842 ft.², 1.5 storey, 3+1 bed / 2 bath
A new project for an island cottage in the Muskoka region, this new plan utilizes a post and beam foundation system designed to use minimum concrete. Poured concrete is limited to footing areas as it would have to be mixed on site in wheelbarrows. The rest of the foundation is prefabricated concrete pier blocks supporting a wood framed subfloor.
Covering 1,842 ft.², this 1.5 storey cottage includes 3+1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Large loft area for overflow sleeping. Utility room was eliminated to maximize living space and not essential in a three-season building (which isn’t required to have HVAC systems by building code).
Built right on Canadian Shield, the site cottage is in a wonderfully rugged setting. The clients have hydro, so there is no need to go off-grid, but they plan to install solar in future.
