This Hemlock Timber Frame Pergola was built as part of a project with D-Squared Construction around 2013. The pergola was designed for a rooftop patio on Carling Avenue in Ottawa’s West End.
Hemlock was used because it is a natural exterior grade wood just like Cedar. Because Cedar is unable to support the long spans that were required for strength in this particular project, Hemlock was the obvious choice. It’s strong!
We also introduced some hand peeled detailing on the corners to add even more visual interest.
