Sleeping Bunkies & Small Spaces
The traditional Canadian Bunkie is used as a sleepover cabin. It can be a simple, single-level design or include a loft like a typical home, just a ‘tiny’ version.
What about just building small? You would have to check with your local township for any minimum square footage requirements, but the idea of the Bunkie could also be used as a retreat space, beach house, artist or creative studio, or entertainment space.
Tiny log structures
If building on a Tiny Budget is the goal, you can eliminate building permit costs by building less than 108 sq.ft. We have designed a bunkie for this purpose: the 9′ x 12′ ‘Muskoka bunkie’ even accommodates a small kitchen. Download the Muskoka Bunkie plans.
Just enough living space
The Poplar Bunkie (pictured below) is very feature rich for a small space (764ft.², including a loft), and might be more of what you have in mind if you want a full cabin, but to keep it small. The main cozy living space encompasses room to cook, dine, and hangout, while a full bedroom and bath, and a flexible loft space expand the space. An integrated porch is another great feature.
