Homeowners who choose to build with logs or timbers often love to carry the theme and aesthetic through to other design finishes within the home. In this post, we take a quick tour through some of the options.
Some choose to apply this aesthetic quite liberally, while others choose to use these log/timber highlights more sparingly.
Railings
We’ve done a whole blog post on railings and stairs before, and here’s a nice example of stairs using slender trees with the bark still in place for the railings.
Custom furnishings
Kitchens present a number of options for special finishes, included counter tops, cabinetry and nooks. In this example, a custom banquette and table is the focus. It uses two kinds of wood, and features rough boards framed by a more finely finished and stained wood.
Custom furniture generally presents a great opportunity for creating a unique look with woods of different colours and grains. Live edges, as on this table, create an even stronger connection to nature.
Accents
In the fireplace below, the natural stone of the chimney wall is accented by timbers and an extremely simple timber mantle. The overall effect is cozy, warm and inviting.
In this example, the chimney creates real drama with its double height exposed stone, and the accent logs work with the stone to create a completely different feel from the example above.
