In 2018 we have a number of great projects on the go. This particular project features a log home set on a beautiful property overlooking the South Nation River close to where it meets the Ottawa River.
The project is not yet complete, but the pictures here show a log home well on the way to completion.
Most of our clients prefer us to manage the complete project from start to finish, but this project involves owners who are willing to invest some “sweat equity” to save money where possible in exchange for their dream home. It’s a great way to get more overall when it’s an exchange that works for the homeowner.
Classic log home style
The log style featured here is Scandinavian full scribe and the building consists of a 28′ x 32′ log shell with two bedroom wings which are finished in stucco on the exterior.
The log building itself contains post & beam floor and roof systems that stand out against white drywalled ceilings. Angled gable windows allow plenty of light to pass through, making the use of lighting unnecessary during the day.
The couple respects craftsmanship so naturally they chose to purchase cabinetry from the Amish community.
There is a walkout basement foundation that will be finished with a unique natural stone veneer product that can be glued to the wall instead of requiring a brick ledge for support.
A steel roof adds to the classic overall look. Ideal Roofing’s Junior HF profile was selected. This standing seam product has no exposed fasteners, ensuring the roof’s longevity.
Heavy duty windows with 3-inch thick frames imported from Ireland complement the natural strength of the logs.
Still to come…
In the next few months the home will have a new wood burning fireplace along with log stairs and railings. An attached garage will also be built later this year. We will be adding pictures to the story as things progress. Stay tuned!
